Government sets $145 million drought relief drive for agriculture this year

The Ministry of Agriculture intends to carry out a drought-mitigation package worth one hundred and forty-five million dollars over the course of this year.

Speaking in the House as he wound up his Sectoral Debate remarks, Portfolio Minister Floyd Green said the Rural Agricultural Development Authority would steer the effort.

Among the measures are building a number of small rainwater-holding ponds, buying additional tanker vehicles to move water, and putting in more drip lines to use water sparingly on farms.

Green also noted that the National Irrigation Commission is weighing different ways to tap water from sources outside the usual supply routes.
