Dancehall artiste Dexta Daps has another milestone to mark, days after receiving silver certification in the United Kingdom for his 2015 single Shabba Madda Pot.
On Monday, his new release, Shine, advanced on the USA iTunes Reggae Chart, moving from No. 9 to No. 6. The song was produced by Aljero Shevon Barnett, Billy Summers and Daniel Fuller Grossman, with writing credits going to Dexta Daps and Sheldon Taylor.
Shine drew quick attention after its release and made an early climb on the global chart. Its accompanying video was co-directed by Lagikz and Dexta Daps and filmed in Seaview Gardens, the community he identifies as home.
The visuals place the neighbourhood and its people at the centre, showing different generations and grounding the song in a strong sense of place.
“To have my own music and message hit the top 10 on iTunes means everything,” Dexta Daps said in a release to Observer Online. “This is for the people who have always held me down and for everyone who dares to step into their own light.”
Shine can now be streamed and downloaded across major music platforms.
