On this day, June 10, 2014, Jamaican dancehall superstar Popcaan released his groundbreaking debut album Where We Come From, a project that helped launch him into global stardom. The album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart.
Led by the timeless title track “Where We Come From,” which has amassed more than 50 million views across YouTube audio and official music video, the album became a defining moment in the Unruly Boss’ career and a staple in modern dancehall history.
The project also featured singles such as “Everything Nice,” “Hold On,” “The System,” and “Love Yuh Bad,” which all laid the foundation for Popcaan’s international rise while showcasing his signature melodies, raw storytelling, and relatable themes.
Originally released through Mixpak Records, the album was executive produced by Dre Skull alongside an all-star cast production team including Dubbel Dutch, Jamie "YVP" Roberts, Anju Blaxx, and Adde Instrumentals, helping craft the album’s rich and diverse sound.
According to Luminate, Popcaan has moved over one million career album equivalent units, with Where We Come From accounting for approximately 130,000 of those units.
To commemorate the album’s 10th anniversary, Mixpak Records released a deluxe edition featuring previously unreleased tracks “Beat the Struggle,” “Don’t Finesse Me,” and an acoustic version of the iconic title track.
