St Thomas labourer and 14-year-old charged over imitation gun

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police in St Thomas have charged a 20-year-old labourer and a 14-year-old boy with possession of a prohibited weapon after an encounter in the parish on July 5.

The adult facing the charge is Delano Willis, also known as “Delli”. He and the teenager both give a St Thomas address.

Morant Bay Police say an off-duty officer who was at a gathering nearby was told that people in the vicinity had been spotted with a gun. The officer then reportedly saw Willis pass what looked like a firearm to the youth.

A search of both followed. Officers located a green imitation firearm tucked in the teenager’s waistband.

The pair were detained and later charged after question-and-answer interviews held with their lawyers present, and with the boy’s guardian also in attendance. Authorities are still settling a court date for the two accused.
