Mirra Andreeva wins French Open title at 19, youngest women’s champion since Seles
Russian teen Mirra Andreeva captured her maiden major crown at Roland Garros, beating qualifier Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 in the French Open title match.
At 19, Andreeva is the youngest woman to lift the Paris trophy since Monica Seles, who completed a three-year Roland Garros winning streak in 1992. After converting championship point, Andreeva was overcome with emotion, then spoke about thanking herself for staying strong. She also pointed to help from her psychologist and team, saying she managed anxiety and "demons" across the fortnight in Paris.
