Audine McIntosh Named 2025 Dr Barry Wint Memorial Scholarship Recipient
Audine McIntosh has been named a 2025 recipient of the Dr Barry Wint Memorial Scholarship, one of the students honoured during the programme's second annual awards ceremony.
The memorial scholarship supports students pursuing qualifications in healthcare. McIntosh, who is training to become a registered nurse, said the award brings her measurably closer to that goal.
"This scholarship is very important to me because it puts me one step further in reaching my goal of being a registered nurse," she said.
McIntosh described nursing as a deeply personal vocation rather than a career chosen on impulse. She said her commitment to the profession grew from practical experience gained before she entered formal study.
"I personally believe nursing is my God given calling. It's what I was meant to do in life and I came to that realization through my volunteer work in high school and working with the elderly and that's something that I really want to do," she explained.
Her early volunteer placements exposed her to the needs of older patients and reinforced her desire to serve that population in a clinical setting. McIntosh indicated that caring for the elderly remains central to what she hopes to achieve once she is fully qualified.
The 2025 ceremony recognised the second group of awardees since the memorial scholarship was established. McIntosh was among the students celebrated at the event for pursuing healthcare-related studies.
She has two years of academic work remaining before she completes her nursing programme. McIntosh expressed thanks for the award and said she intends to finish her studies and move into practice as a registered nurse.
