Jorge Jesus Signs Four-Year Deal to Lead Portugal Into 2030 World Cup

1 min read

Portugal has turned to Jorge Jesus as its new head coach, signing him to a four-year agreement that will carry the national side into the 2030 World Cup tournament the country is set to co-host.

The change follows Portugal's elimination from this summer's competition, after a 1-0 last-16 loss to Spain. Previous boss Roberto Martinez stepped away from a role he had held since taking charge in January 2023.

At 71, Jesus offers prior experience alongside Portugal skipper Cristiano Ronaldo, having managed the star at Saudi club Al Nassr. Together they claimed the Saudi Pro League title in the last completed season.

Ronaldo has since made clear that the 2026 World Cup will be his sixth and final showing at the finals, though he has not outlined any plan to end his international career entirely.

Jesus has stressed that Ronaldo remains a significant figure in Portuguese football, with the striker's deal at Al Nassr running through 2027.
