West Indies break 23-year Sri Lanka Test series drought after Antigua draw

1 min read

A drawn second Test in Antigua handed the West Indies a 1-0 series victory over Sri Lanka, ending a 23-year wait for a Test series win against the Asian side.

Justin Greaves and Shai Hope carried the batting response after Sri Lanka piled up 549 in their first innings. The hosts were dismissed for 499 in reply.

Greaves produced the highest score of his career, facing 325 deliveries across more than eight hours to reach 180, with 14 fours and two sixes. Hope added a measured 112, and together they set a venue record with a 242-run fifth-wicket partnership.

That rally allowed the West Indies to pass 400 in an innings despite conceding more than 500 runs in a Test for the first time since 2015. Three batters in the series also passed 150 in an innings, something the side had not managed since 2005.

The triumph gave captain Roston Chase his first Test series win in charge and halted a run of 10 series without victory stretching back to 2023.

Attention now shifts to a two-Test home series against Pakistan, scheduled from 25 July to 7 August in Trinidad.
