Chang reaffirms Jamaica will bar criminals under US third-country transit agreement
National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang has reinforced the Government's position that individuals with criminal histories will not be permitted entry under Jamaica's agreement with the United States covering Third-Country Nationals (TCNs).
Officials say the memorandum of understanding will allow Third-Country Nationals transferred from the United States to pass through Jamaica on their way to their final destinations.
The Opposition People's National Party (PNP) has criticised the initiative, warning that 'dangerous' people will be brought into the country.
Speaking in Parliament today, Dr. Chang addressed the public debate on the matter and repeated that criminals will not be included in the arrangement.
He challenged critics, asking why the Government would admit offenders when it has worked so hard to reduce crime and violence.
Dr. Chang stressed that no criminal, regardless of nationality, will find safe haven in Jamaica under the Andrew Holness-led Government.
He said the Administration will continue to protect the gains made against crime and violence and to safeguard the country's borders.
