PNP presses Holness on whether he knew Wheatley faced Integrity Commission probe before Cabinet return
The People's National Party is seeking answers on whether Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness was aware that Dr. Andrew Wheatley was under scrutiny by the Integrity Commission before he brought him back into the Cabinet last year.
That demand comes after the commission published a report and ruled that Dr. Wheatley should face charges on several counts, including alleged illicit enrichment.
Julian Robinson, the PNP Spokesman on Finance, said the situation carried a sharp irony. Dr. Wheatley had left the Cabinet in 2018 amid a separate corruption allegation linked to his period as Minister of Energy, yet was later restored to the executive.
Robinson also urged any members of parliament who may be under investigation to come forward and declare their status publicly.
The Integrity Commission had signalled years earlier that a number of parliamentarians were being examined over suspected illicit enrichment, though it did not identify them.
