Serena and Venus Williams Earn Wimbledon Doubles Wildcard for June Return
Serena Williams and Venus Williams are poised to team up again on Wimbledon's grass courts after tournament officials awarded them a wildcard for the women's doubles at this year's Championships, which open on June 29.
The American siblings have captured the doubles crown at SW19 on six occasions as a pair. They will not join the singles field, however, following the release of the confirmed wildcard list, with one remaining spot still outstanding.
Serena, 44, stepped back into match play at Queen's Club following an extended absence, then carried her return forward in Berlin. There, she and Czech partner Karolina Muchova were beaten 6-4, 6-4 by Giuliana Olmos and Erin Routliffe.
Venus, 45, has found singles victories hard to come by this season. She did register a doubles win in April, pairing with Britain's Katie Boulter at the Madrid Open.
