Spanish Town man gets half-million bail on altered chassis charge

A 32-year-old Spanish Town resident facing a charge linked to a vehicle with a defaced chassis identifier was freed on $500,000 bail in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday.

Michael Williams is before the court on a count of unlawful possession of property. Defence counsel Earl Hamilton, seeking his release, told the court that Williams had nothing to conceal and was unaware of any unlawful alteration to the car.

Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne set bail and directed Williams to check in at the Bog Walk police station three times each week. The case is listed for further mention on October 6.

According to the Crown's account, officers on July 17 halted a motorist in Spanish Town. Checks of the car's paperwork allegedly showed the chassis number had been interfered with. Williams was then detained and later charged with unlawful possession of property.
