Business House Domino league returns after six-year break with eight teams

The Business House Domino competition is back in action after a six-year absence, marking the revival of one of Jamaica's longstanding corporate domino leagues.

Eight teams have entered this year's tournament, among them Jamaica Post, the Telecommunications Port Authority of Jamaica, Covenant, the Bank of Jamaica, the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, the Jamaica Observer, the National Housing Trust, and GK. Three sides are new to the competition.

The relaunch included the first round-robin fixtures. PTD defeated PAJ 120-68, Covenant held off the Bank of Jamaica 83-74, and NHT edged GK 92-90. The Ministry of Education, Youth, Skills and Information collected a default victory over the Observer.

Officials said staging the event again after such a long gap has not been straightforward. Turnout and backing fell short of earlier expectations, though organisers expressed appreciation for the eight teams that committed. Boom is sponsoring this year's competition, and planners are aiming to secure additional support so the league can grow in scope and quality.

Several organisations reportedly reached out about joining but could not meet the entry deadline because of internal scheduling pressures. There are indications that more teams will register next year, with hopes of pushing the field beyond 16 entrants.

Participants welcomed the return of Business House play so soon after the Jamaica Civil Service Association tournament. One squad that recently lifted the civil service title after defeating the education ministry in the final said it wants to build on that form, while accepting that the business-house schedule will offer tough, good-natured opposition throughout.
