“A major milestone in Jamaica’s digital transformation” – Stephen Price on Flow officially introducing 5G in the country

2 min readSt. Catherine

Liberty Caribbean, operators of Flow and Liberty Business, has officially launched its Fifth Generation (5G) mobile network in Jamaica, marking a major milestone in the nation’s digital transformation.

The launch brings next-generation connectivity to consumers and businesses across the island.

Flow’s 5G mobile network already reaches more than 70 per cent of Jamaica’s population, with service now available in Kingston, Portmore and Spanish Town in St. Catherine, May Pen in Clarendon and communities along the north coast.

Speaking at the launch event held at Flow’s Corporate Office in Kingston, Vice President and General Manager, Stephen Price, described the achievement as a defining moment for both the company and the country.

He said that Flow is delivering a next-generation network designed to power innovation, expand access, strengthen resilience and enhance Jamaica’s competitiveness in an increasingly digital global economy.

Flow’s network expansion also continues at pace, with coverage scheduled to extend to Mandeville in Manchester, Santa Cruz and Black River in St. Elizabeth, Savanna-la-Mar in Westmoreland, Bull Bay in St. Andrew, Morant Bay in St. Thomas and surrounding communities by the end of the month.

Flow’s 5G network is expected to deliver speeds up to three times faster than previous generations of mobile technology, while providing improved performance, greater reliability and expanded network capacity. These capabilities will support a growing range of connectivity-driven applications for consumers and businesses, including real-time monitoring, logistics management, cloud-based services and other emerging digital solutions.

During the initial phase of the rollout, 5G services will be available to Flow postpaid and business customers, with access expanding progressively to additional customer segments as network deployment continues.

The rollout is supported by a comprehensive network modernisation programme completed over the past seven months. Enhancements include the introduction of Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) for improved indoor and roaming connectivity, Voice over LTE (VoLTE) for high-definition voice calls alongside high-speed data access, increased network resilience through generators deployed at more than 60 per cent of mobile sites, and Direct-to-Cell technology to extend connectivity and strengthen emergency communications capabilities.

Charles Manus, Senior Director of Liberty Business, highlighted the transformative potential of the new network for Jamaica’s business community, describing 5G as a catalyst for innovation that will enable organisations to operate more efficiently, compete more effectively and unlock new growth opportunities.

To fully benefit from the enhanced network experience, Flow is encouraging customers to become “5G Ready” by ensuring they have both a compatible 5G-enabled device and a SIM card capable of supporting 5G and VoLTE services.

Customers can check the status of their SIM card by dialling *555# from any Flow mobile device.

To support the transition, Flow is offering complimentary SIM card replacements at its retail locations islandwide, along with competitively priced 5G-enabled devices and flexible payment options designed to make upgrading more accessible and affordable.
