Law-enforcement agencies and the courts dealt with a string of grave criminal matters on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, spanning child sexual offences, school violence, alleged fraud, currency smuggling and a firearm confrontation across several parishes.

In St. Elizabeth, a 29-year-old construction worker from Burnt Savannah has been charged over reported sexual misconduct involving his 15-year-old stepdaughter. His name is being withheld to protect the victim. He faces five counts, including sexual intercourse with a person under 16, sexual touching of a child, possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography. Reports indicate the girl, a student in the parish, lived with her mother, siblings and the accused between 24 December 2025 and 7 June 2026. Investigators say he engaged in sexual activity with her on multiple occasions while knowing she was under 16. During one incident he allegedly recorded the act on his phone and sent the footage to the victim's device. Police retrieved the video, took a statement implicating him and arrested him during a targeted operation at his home.

Also in St. Elizabeth, a 15-year-old BB Coke High School student has been charged with robbery with aggravation and assault occasioning bodily harm over an alleged attack on a 13-year-old schoolmate in a bathroom in May. Her identity has been withheld because of her age. It is alleged that on the morning of 26 May she struck the complainant in the face three times, stomped on her stomach causing bruising and swelling, held a knife to her neck and, with two masked females, stole $450 in cash from the younger girl's pocket.

In St. Catherine, pastor Sean Green, 57, told the parish court on Tuesday that he intends to make full restitution to a complainant who paid him more than US$12,000 to purchase a truck. Green faces charges of fraudulent conversion and non-delivery of service. Through attorney Kemoy Donaldson, he agreed before acting Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gail to repay the sum. The defence said the money was used to procure a 2010 Isuzu truck from Japan rather than for personal use, but the judge said Green must produce documentary evidence or proceed to trial. Restitution is to be made before his next appearance on 15 September; bail was extended. Investigators allege he received US$12,132 between January and November 2025, failed to deliver the vehicle or return the funds and later became evasive. The matter was reported to the Spanish Town Criminal Investigation Branch, leading to his arrest.

Shawn Walker, 34, of Crawford in St. Elizabeth, was granted $2 million bail in the St. James Parish Court on Tuesday despite prosecution objections over his alleged attempt to smuggle more than US$270,000 into Jamaica. Prosecutors said Walker, arrested at Sangster International Airport in St. James on 7 June after arriving from New Jersey, is also under investigation by United States authorities and may face further charges pending forensic examination of his cellphone. He was ordered to surrender travel documents, observe a port stop order and report to Black River police on Mondays and Thursdays. The Financial Investigations Division said Jamaica Customs Agency officers found 28 sealed boxes of Irish Spring soap in his luggage containing US$270,580, which he could not satisfactorily account for. His attorney, Donovan Collins, said bail should not be withheld as punishment. Walker is due back in court on 1 July.

In St. Mary, 23-year-old Akeem Clark, also called Knuckle, of Cromwell Land, has been charged after police say he brandished a gun and threatened a woman who threw stones at him during a dispute in Flow Mel on 11 June. Highgate police allege Clark intervened in a confrontation between the woman and the father of her children before pointing the firearm at her. He faces counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, common-law assault and using a firearm to commit a felony. A court date is being set.
