TikTok rape-accused constable gets $500,000 bail in St Catherine

1 min readSt. Catherine

A 23-year-old police constable charged with rape and abduction after connecting with a woman on TikTok has received $500,000 bail from the St Catherine Parish Court.

The officer, whose identity is being withheld, appeared before the court on Tuesday. King's Counsel Peter Champagnie successfully sought bail, which was imposed with strict reporting conditions.

Champagnie told the court that the sexual contact was consensual. He relied on WhatsApp messages said to have passed between the complainant and the constable soon after the alleged offence, arguing that those exchanges cast doubt on her account of rape and abduction.

Prosecutors say the 25-year-old complainant first encountered the constable on TikTok in October 2025. They kept in touch and agreed to meet in Half-Way Tree, Kingston, on November 29. The Crown alleges that he offered to drive her home in St Catherine but instead took her to a car wash nearby and had sex with her without consent.

Police were later informed of the complaint. The constable was charged after the Director of Public Prosecutions authorised the prosecution. The matter is next listed for September 22.
