Anthony Patrick to leave Racing United after playoff run
Anthony Patrick’s time as head coach of Racing United is expected to end when his contract runs out at the close of June, even after he guided the club into the Red Stripe Jamaica Premier League playoffs in only its second season at the top level.
The development was disclosed Saturday night in a release issued through club president Nigel Walker. According to the club, its board and management have opted to change course in the way Racing United handles its football programme.
Patrick’s departure would close a nine-year run with the organisation. Over that period, he helped lift Racing United from St. Catherine Division 2 to the Jamaica Premier League, marking one of the club’s major rises in local football.
TVJ Sports understands that the split may have been building for some time, with Patrick reportedly not aligned with the club’s new investors on key matters. The club has not said whether the move will have any bearing on Patrick’s job at St. Catherine High School, where Walker also holds an important role in the management structure.
The positions of the remaining members of Racing United’s coaching team have also not been settled publicly. The club said details on its coaching arrangement will be announced later. Walker, when reached, declined to make any further comment on Patrick’s exit.
