Gunfire Reports Halt Antigua Labour Party Rally During Masicka Set
Reports of gunshots brought an Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party rally in St John's, Antigua, to an early close on Saturday night, cutting into a stage appearance by Jamaican dancehall artiste Masicka.
One person who identified themself as being at the political event said the problem began while Masicka was into the third track of his performance. That individual also said Sizzla had been booked for the programme and had already finished before the disturbance.
Facebook videos from the scene seemed to pick up what sounded like shots before people in the crowd hurried away from the area. The same source put attendance at roughly 5,000 and described the gathering as a major rally.
The ABLP, headed by Prime Minister Gaston Browne, staged the event ahead of Antigua and Barbuda's April 30 general election. The governing party is expected to meet its chief opponent, the United Progressive Party, in a tight contest.
