Apostle Miriam Levy, founder and pastor of Glory Outreach Ministries in Central Village, is marking nearly 40 years in ministry while preparing to launch her gospel album, Triple Portion Blessings, on July 10, her birthday.

Levy said her journey took a decisive turn while she was living in Canada, where she had spent about four years and planned to settle. She said she heard a clear spiritual instruction to “go home”, a call she connected to the ministry work she had already begun with children in the Central Village area before leaving Jamaica.

After returning, Levy gradually resumed community outreach, including visiting residents, giving assistance and praying with people. She said the wider responsibility of ministry was daunting because, unlike supporting other pastors and bishops, leading her own work meant carrying the burden of making sure everything was in order.

Much of her service has centred on children and families. Levy recalled parents bringing children to her when they felt overwhelmed, and said many young people she nurtured years ago remain connected to her church. She also described the broad demands of ministry, saying she has often had to serve as counsellor, adviser and helper in practical matters. She is now also a justice of the peace.

Levy said balancing church, community service and personal life has required prayer, meditation and learning to rest. With the ministry now about 13 years old, she said trusted people are in place to share responsibility so she can take breaks when needed.

She also spoke warmly about being the mother of gospel performer Kevin Downswell, describing him as respectful, studious, loving and committed to God from childhood.

Her album, Triple Portion Blessings, follows years of songwriting, including pieces she said were written more than 25 years ago. Levy said she had stepped back from public singing because of throat problems, but felt renewed after hearing the instruction, “Dig again.” The launch will be held free of cost at Glory Outreach Ministries in the Central Village compound, with Levy saying the event is meant to help uplift the community.
