About

Independent Jamaica-first news and media.

Abeng is an independent news and media brand covering Jamaica. We aggregate, translate, and contextualise stories from the island's licensed publishers and disclose source attribution on every article. Editorial independence is the product.

Sister products listed below are operated separately and link here for related context (legal, community, land, eSIM data). Abeng does not endorse third-party content surfaced through them.

About Us

A modern Jamaican information network.

Abeng is a modern Jamaican media and information platform designed to make Jamaican information more accessible, understandable, and connected.

Inspired by the historic Jamaican Maroon abeng horn — once used to communicate across mountains during resistance, survival, and unity — Abeng represents awareness, connection, and the power of communication in the digital age.

Built by Jamaicans, for Jamaicans, Abeng helps people discover and better understand the stories, systems, communities, and conversations shaping Jamaica.

Rooted in ideas that are “globally connected but locally rooted,” our platform combines media, public information, multilingual translation, community updates, local discovery, and digital communication tools into one connected experience.

We believe information should not only be available — it should be easy to understand, culturally relevant, and accessible to everyone, whether living in Jamaica or across the diaspora.

Abeng was created with a simple belief: information is power, but accessible information creates opportunity.

Inspired by the spirit of the original Abeng — known for “giving voice to ordinary people” and advancing “Caribbean-centered thought and identity” — we continue to build media and technology rooted in the realities of Jamaica.

As the platform grows, Abeng is expanding beyond media into a broader ecosystem of Jamaican-focused digital tools and civic technology, building modern digital infrastructure rooted in identity, accessibility, and innovation.

Our mission

  • make Jamaican information easier to access,
  • simplify complex systems,
  • strengthen community and diaspora connections,
  • preserve Jamaican identity in digital spaces,
  • and create tools that empower everyday people.

In a world overloaded with noise and misinformation, Abeng focuses on clarity, accessibility, context, and trusted information.

Abeng is more than a media platform. It is a modern Jamaican information network — built to inform, connect, and empower.

Legal opinions sourced from Jurifi are disclosed as AI summaries and are not legal advice.
