This week’s Star Cap highlighted several stories that drew public attention, from football celebrations overseas to police-shooting investigations in Kingston and a social-media stir involving Vybz Kartel.

The programme reported that Arsenal Football Club had returned to the top of the Premier League after a 22-year wait. According to the recap, Manchester City needed to win away to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium to keep the title race alive until the final day, but the result left Arsenal four points clear and beyond reach. Arsenal were expected to lift the trophy after their final match against Crystal Palace.

Music producer Ewane Price was also featured after being sentenced in the Supreme Court. Price, 47, had been convicted on February 10 and reportedly told investigators that imitation guns found at his home were props for music videos. He received 15 years on possession charges and a life sentence linked to stockpiling prohibited weapons under the Firearms Act.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has opened probes into two recent police shooting incidents in Kingston. In Craig Town, a 22-year-old man and his 60-year-old father were shot and injured during what police described as an armed confrontation. In another matter, a man was fatally shot during a police operation near Princess and Charles streets in downtown Kingston. He had not yet been formally identified, though sources cited by The Gleaner said he was believed to be a teenager. INDECOM has launched 131 investigations into fatal shootings involving security-force members since the start of the year.

Vybz Kartel also responded after criticism of a viral video showing him dancing in his bathroom to his song “Don’t Mess Up” while wearing boxers. He later returned in the same boxers and red robe, telling critics to move on if they disliked the content and reminding followers that he is happily engaged and an award-winning entertainer.

The Dear Pastor item centred on a 65-year-old woman married to a man 15 years younger than she is. She said retirement and freedom from pregnancy worries had improved her sex life, but admitted she was jealous and did not want younger women at church getting too close to her husband. Pastor assured her that her fear was unfounded.
