1 min readTrelawny

TRELAWNY, Jamaica — The 10-year-old schoolgirl whose body was discovered Tuesday evening along a dirt track in bushes in the Tyre district near Troy, Trelawny, has been identified as Shani Coke, also known as “Kaidra.”

Shani was a student of Troy Primary School. Police said her body was found partially nude with her throat slashed, sending shockwaves through the rural community.

In the aftermath of the discovery, tensions escalated as residents reportedly attacked a father and son. The son, identified as Delroy Coke, was killed during the incident, while his father was also assaulted. His condition has not been disclosed.

Police said some residents accused Delroy Coke of being involved in the child’s death. However, authorities have not announced any findings linking him to the crime, and investigations into both the child’s killing and the subsequent mob attack remain ongoing.

The police are urging anyone with information that could assist investigators to contact the nearest police station or Crime Stop as they continue their probe into the tragic incidents.
