IDB Invest to Host 2026 Sustainability Week Launch in Barbados

James P. Scriven serves as chief executive officer of IDB Invest. The organisation is set to begin Sustainability Week 2026 in Barbados on Tuesday, May 26, giving the Caribbean its first turn as host of the private-sector and investment event.
The first day is expected to bring together senior government representatives, banks and other financial players, investors, and business executives for talks on private capital approaches tied to sustainable expansion in the Caribbean and Latin America.
Sustainability Week is IDB Invest's main forum for work with private businesses on raising capital, building stronger markets, and increasing investment across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Opening-day sessions are scheduled to cover several regional priorities, among them financial markets, critical minerals, agribusiness, tourism, infrastructure, and climate-linked investment. The agenda will also place attention on managing risk, encouraging innovation, and developing projects that can attract financing.
IDB Invest says staging the forum in Barbados gives the Caribbean a central place in regional and international discussions on sustainable finance and development led by business activity. The event is intended to link investors from the region and overseas with practical opportunities, while strengthening exchanges between public officials and private-sector interests on how investment can contribute to lasting development results.
Among those slated to participate in the opening day are Barbados Prime Minister The Honourable Mia Mottley; James Scriven, chief executive officer of IDB Invest; Daniel Best, president of the Caribbean Development Bank; and senior figures from major global and regional companies and financial institutions involved in banking, critical minerals, tourism, insurance, agribusiness, and consumer goods.
The opening sessions for Sustainability Week 2026 will be held in Bridgetown, with participation available both at the venue and online.
