INDECOM probes fatal police shooting of Orlando Salmon in Cassava Piece

Orlando Salmon, also known as 'Bomma', was shot dead before dawn Tuesday during a police operation in Cassava Piece, St Andrew. The source report says he had left prison less than two years earlier after spending more than 10 years incarcerated.

According to reports, officers went into the community about 4:30 a.m. for a planned exercise. Police say Salmon was wounded in an encounter during that operation, and a gun was taken from the scene.

Authorities have not yet set out the full account of what led to the killing. The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has opened an investigation.

Up to May 19, the number of persons killed in reported clashes with members of the security forces since January stood at about 130. Fifteen of those deaths have occurred so far this month.
