IPrint Chairman Steven Steele Calls for Overhaul of 1978 Kingston Signage Laws to Reflect Modern Advertising Trends
Share
IPrint Group of Companies Chairman Steven Steele is calling for amendments to the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation 1978 signage regulations, arguing that the decades-old rules no longer reflect modern advertising technology and urban growth.
Speaking after a stakeholder meeting on outdoor signage regulation in Kingston, Steele said the laws need to be upgraded to match changes in infrastructure, population growth, and city development.
Managing Director of Signtex and President of the Outdoor Signage Association of Jamaica, Raul Duany acknowledged that while signage remains important for businesses, some structures were erected without approval and have contributed to roadway clutter.
Meanwhile, Mayor of Kingston Andrew Swaby said the discussions marked the first in a series of quarterly meetings aimed at improving regulation and addressing issues within the signage industry.
