Jamaica Diaspora Conference Delegates to Support Montego Bay Craft Market Vendors

St. James

Delegates attending the upcoming Jamaica Diaspora Conference will participate in a new community empowerment initiative aimed at supporting vendors at the Montego Bay Craft Market in St. James.

The activity, scheduled for June 17, will provide conference participants with an opportunity to visit the market and purchase goods from entrepreneurs who continue to recover from the impact of Hurricane Melissa.

Chair of the Jamaica Diaspora Day of Service and Empowerment Subcommittee, Dr. Sylvanus Thompson, said the initiative has been added to this year’s conference programme as part of efforts to strengthen community engagement and economic support.

According to Dr. Thompson, transportation will be provided from the Montego Bay Convention Centre to the craft market, making it easier for delegates to connect directly with local business operators.

He noted that the Montego Bay Craft Market was chosen because of its significant role in the local economy and the challenges many vendors have faced since the passage of the hurricane.

The initiative forms part of the broader Jamaica Diaspora Conference, which seeks to foster stronger relationships between Jamaicans living overseas and those at home while encouraging investment, partnerships and national development.

The 11th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference is scheduled to take place in Montego Bay, St. James, from June 14 to 18 under the theme, “Diaspora Partnerships: Re-Building a More Resilient Jamaica.”
