Jamaica partners with China to Boost Local Rice Production
Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining the Hon. Floyd Green said food security remains a fundamental priority at the Ministry, and that it will explore any viable opportunity to achieve that goal.
“We are all aware that Jamaica is a massive consumer of rice, and that drives up our import bill.”
Green said the Ministry has spearheaded rice production projects in the past, but with China’s expertise and agricultural technology – the execution of a robust programme around the production of rice is possible.

“We are going to look at these new approaches and we will build upon the lessons learnt in the past to reduce some of our dependency on external rice production by producing our own.”
