Rapper Mystikal Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison After Guilty Plea in Rape Case

1 min readHanover

Rapper Mystikal has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to third-degree rape in connection with a 2022 sexual assault case in Louisiana.

The artist, whose real name is Michael Lawrence Tyler, appeared in court where the victim described a violent assault that allegedly took place at his Louisiana home. According to reports, the woman told the court that Mystikal choked, punched, and forcibly raped her during the incident.

During the sentencing hearing, the victim urged the judge to impose the maximum penalty available under the law. In response, Mystikal reportedly addressed the court, saying, “If I did that to you, I deserve the max sentence.”

The rapper had entered a guilty plea last month as part of an agreement with prosecutors. While the maximum sentence for the charge was 25 years, the court imposed a 20-year prison term.

Mystikal was initially arrested in 2022 following the allegations and remained at the center of a lengthy legal process before reaching the plea deal.

This is not the first time the rapper has faced serious legal troubles. In 2003, he was convicted of sexual battery involving an infirm victim and served several years in prison before being released in 2010. Following that conviction, he was required to register as a lifetime sex offender.

The latest sentence means the veteran New Orleans rapper will spend the next two decades behind bars, bringing another chapter of his long-running legal issues to a close.
