Roswell continues form in Slovakia

National 100-metre hurdles champion Demisha Roswell continued her impressive form this season after picking up Jamaica’s only victory at yesterday’s World Continental Tour Silver meet in Slovakia.
Roswell, the country’s number-one athlete in the women’s 100m hurdles this season, won the event in 12.54 seconds to make it back-to-back victories following her success a week ago at the Luzern meet in Switzerland. 
Roswell turned back the challenge of former Vere Technical teammate Britany Anderson, who is making a comeback after missing the past two seasons. Anderson finished second in 12.73, while Luca Kozák of Hungary was third in 12.76.
There were also second-place finishes at the meet from Elaine Thompson-Herah, Lavanya Williams, and Ackeem Blake.
Thompson-Herah had to settle for the runner-up spot in the women’s 100m in 11.06 as Torrie Lewis of Australia won in a national record 11.04, with former Jamaican Christania Williams, representing Austria, finishing third in 11.06. Williams was also breaking Austria’s national record.
Williams took second in the women’s 200m in 23.13 as Lewis completed the sprint double by winning in 22.66, with Buglárka Takács of Hungary finishing third in 23.18.
Blake finished second in the men’s 100m in 10.04. Bayanda Walaza of South Africa, the 2024 World Under-20 100m champion in Lima, Peru, sped to victory in a meet record 9.89, while Andre De Grasse of Canada was third in 10.05.
Competing in his third race of the season, Tyler Mason, the World Championships bronze medallist in the men’s 110m hurdles, finished third in 13.47 as Enzo Diessl of Austria won in a season’s best 13.25.
Several Jamaicans also competed in the field, with long jumper Nikolai Williams producing the best result after finishing third in that event with 7.98 metres. 
Ackelia Smith was fourth in the long jump, leaping to 6.48m, and Nia Robinson finished sixth with 6.07m.
