Six Killed, Two Injured in Trelawny North Coast Highway Crash

Six people have been killed and two others injured following a devastating head-on collision involving a truck and a minivan on the Trelawny section of the North Coast Highway on Friday morning.

The crash occurred shortly after 8:00 a.m. along the Bogue Gate main road, prompting a major emergency response from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), the Jamaica Fire Brigade and other first responders.

Initial reports indicated that five people had died and three others were injured. However, the death toll later climbed to six after one of the injured victims succumbed to injuries at Falmouth Public General Hospital.

Two people remain hospitalised. Their conditions have not been disclosed.

The latest fatality brings the number of people killed in traffic crashes in Trelawny since the start of the year to 20, compared with 15 during the corresponding period last year.

Emergency personnel carried out rescue and recovery operations at the crash scene while investigators worked to establish the circumstances that led to the collision.

Police have not yet released the identities of the deceased, pending notification of their next of kin.

Investigators are continuing their probe into the cause of the crash and are appealing to anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.
