Taxi Operator Shot Dead in Linstead

St. Catherine

LINSTEAD, St. Catherine — A taxi operator was shot dead in Linstead on Thursday morning in a brazen attack that has left residents and members of the transport sector in shock.

The deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Roger Arnold, otherwise known as “Kevin.” Reports indicate that Arnold was sitting inside his vehicle at a taxi stand commonly known as the “Ochi Bus Stop” along Zepherton Main Road shortly after 6:30 a.m. when he was attacked.

According to police reports, a Nissan AD Wagon carrying several men drove up to the location. One of the occupants reportedly exited the vehicle, approached Arnold, and opened fire, hitting him multiple times before fleeing the scene.

The injured man was transported to Linstead Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe the killing may have been a targeted attack, although no motive has yet been established. Detectives attached to the Linstead Criminal Investigation Branch are pursuing several leads as they work to identify those responsible.

The incident has sparked concern among fellow taxi operators, many of whom have expressed fears about their safety while working. Residents have also voiced alarm over the continued threat of gun violence in the community.

Police are urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the Linstead Police or Crime Stop at 311.

The fatal shooting adds to growing concerns about crime in the parish and has renewed calls for increased security measures in public transportation hubs across the island.
