The Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association of Jamaica (TOBA) has stepped in to address long-standing concerns about working conditions for trainers and grooms at Caymanas Park, donating essential bathroom fixtures earlier this week.

Trainer Victor Williams drew attention to the problem and assisted with an audit of stables that lack proper sanitary conveniences. He reported that, in 2026, some stables at the track still do not have basic amenities such as basins and toilets.

TOBA president Andrew Azar said the association was pleased to support this aspect of the trainers’ working environment. He stressed that those on the backstretch are not asking for wealth, only civil and acceptable living conditions. Azar noted that TOBA has engaged Supreme Ventures but cannot install the units on its own because the property is not owned by the association. He called on the operator to send plumbers and maintenance staff to help with installation, saying that would be a reasonable step.

Captain Marlon Brown, president of the United Racehorse Trainers Association of Jamaica, and Victor Williams welcomed the donation. Williams described the gesture as deeply meaningful on a personal level, explaining that two of the toilets at his stable are out of order, so he often uses the racing office facilities when he is at the track. He said most trainers spend the bulk of their day at the track and face real hardship when facilities are unavailable.

Williams said an audit had identified more than 53 toilets across the yards, with roughly three quarters in deplorable condition—many not flushing and unusable. Approximately 120 licensed trainers are currently operating at Caymanas Park.
