
Westmoreland Man Facing Firearm Related Charges
Detectives assigned to the Westmoreland Policing division have charged a man with Assault at Common Law, Wounding with Intent, and Using a Firearm to Commit a Felony in connection with an incident that occurred in the parish on Saturday, May 23.
Charged is 32-year-old Javier Dacosta of Carlton Street, Grange Hill, Westmoreland.
Reports are that at about 8:00 a.m., Dacosta allegedly entered a man’s premises, brandished a firearm, and pointed it at him. Fearing for his life, the man reportedly ran into his house and barricaded himself inside. It was reported that Dacosta forcefully gained entry to the house and used the firearm to repeatedly hit the man on his head, which resulted in several wounds that bled profusely. Shortly after, Dacosta made his escape in the area.
Following an operation, Dacosta was arrested and taken into custody. A statement was recorded by the police that implicated Dacosta. He was subsequently charged for the abovementioned offenses.
His court date is being finalised.
