Police probe August Town killing after man found shot and partly burnt

Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered with suspected gunshot injuries to the head and burn damage after an early Saturday blaze at a property on August Town Road in St Andrew.

According to the police, officers went to the location sometime after 3:15 a.m. after receiving reports that a building was on fire. The scene was later examined by investigators.

The Half-Way Tree Criminal Investigation Branch has taken charge of the probe into what led to the man’s death.

The incident has unfolded against a backdrop of reported strain and violence in August Town.

Reggae artiste Etana, born Shauna McKenzie, addressed the matter in a social media post Saturday morning, saying members of her family in the area were being targeted.

“My relatives are under attack in August Town, Kingston, Jamaica. They have taken a second person this morning. He is mentally ill, and they have burned my aunt’s shop to the ground!” the entertainer wrote.

Police have not confirmed whether the dead man is linked to the allegations made by Etana.

The investigation is continuing.
