KINGSTON, Jamaica — Beryllium Limited says one of the four people hurt in Wednesday’s explosion and fire at a garage beside its South Camp Road operation in Kingston has died.
The courier company said in a release that the man was an external contractor who had been carrying out work inside the garage. Beryllium, a member of the Guardsman Group, offered condolences to his relatives, friends and loved ones.
The company also said two of the remaining three injured people were taken out of Jamaica on Thursday by air ambulance for treatment at burn centres in the United States, where they are to receive specialist care. The fourth person continues to get medical attention locally.
Beryllium said the care, welfare and recovery of those affected remain the main focus for the company and the wider Guardsman Group.
According to reports from the Jamaica Fire Brigade, welding was being done on one of the company’s armoured trucks before the blast.
