Four Dead, Constable Wounded As Bog Walk Gorge Shooting Shuts Main Route

St. Catherine

The Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine was still shut to traffic on Tuesday evening while police investigators worked at the scene where four men were killed and a constable was badly wounded, according to the police.

Senior Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, who leads the St Catherine North Police Division, said the officer was hit by gunfire during the incident. Nicholson put the policeman’s condition at "serious but stable". The injured constable is reported to be attached to the Linstead Police Station.

Nicholson said the same encounter ended with four men being fatally shot. Police also said two unlicensed guns were taken from the location.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has started its own inquiry into the deaths of the four men.

Nicholson said the gorge, a major corridor connecting Kingston and St Catherine with parts of northern Jamaica, stayed closed while the scene was processed. Drivers were told to prepare for delays and take other roads.

By late Tuesday afternoon, investigators had not provided the names of the dead men or further details on what led to the shooting.
