BOJ Says ABM Network Still Rebuilding After Hurricane Melissa Damage

1 min read

The Bank of Jamaica says local banking services are only now bouncing back from the heavy disruption Hurricane Melissa caused to the country’s ABM network.

BOJ Deputy Governor Dr. Jide Lewis said between 90 and 95 per cent of the machines had returned to service by March. Complaints have continued about faulty ABMs, while the storm also deepened worries about whether people in some areas could reach working machines.

Dr. Lewis said every ABM damaged beyond use has not yet been replaced. He also said the central bank is not empowered to punish financial institutions when they fall short of service-level standards.
