Israeli Bombing of Gaza City Wedding Tent Leaves at Least Six Dead
Local medical sources say at least six people died in Gaza City when Israeli forces struck a wedding tent during a ceremony.
Al Jazeera correspondent Hani Mahmoud, reporting from inside Gaza on Saturday, said multiple projectiles detonated in or close to tents being used for the wedding, sending fragments into nearby areas.
“The two missiles that exploded inside the tent not only caused damage inside, but the shrapnel flew at a very high speed at the surrounding area into the displacement site school next door that was packed with displaced families,” Mahmoud said.
A source at al-Shifa Hospital told Al Jazeera journalists at the scene that no fewer than 15 people were wounded in the strike.
Mahmoud said women and children were thought to be among those hurt or killed, and that the number of casualties was likely to increase.
Citing relatives who attended the wedding, Mahmoud said the tent had been crowded. “Within a few minutes, it turned from a happy occasion to something really sad and bloody,” he said.
“This is what Palestinians have been referring to about the anxiety, the fear, because of these attacks,” Mahmoud added.
