
Boom Boom named Magnum brand ambassador at A Taste of Sumfest
Seasoned dancehall selector Boom Boom left A Taste of Sumfest on Sunday morning with both a career tribute and a new commercial role, after organisers saluted his long service to the genre and Magnum confirmed him as its latest brand ambassador.
In an interview with The Gleaner, the DJ — Marlon Wizzard offstage — described the recognition as “a dream come true”.
“’Cause I’ve been doing the work from a taller time and to see everything come together now, it’s an overwhelming feeling,” Wizzard said. “And me really haffi big up Magnum fi di honour. Fi see dem turn me inna one ambassador fi going out and doing the work weh me love, yeah man … is a great feeling,” he added.
Downsound Entertainment chief executive officer Josef Bogdanovich and Magnum brand manager Brandon Wallace handed him a bespoke leather jacket in black, red and gold, with his name stitched across the back above a Magnum-branded music box.
Boom Boom, who voiced gratitude for the moment, said he had long expected such a breakthrough.
“We always seh sky is the limit, and me believe inna God, and me know me have talent. I’ve been putting in the work right through – locally and internationally. Me a [one of] the only solo DJ weh fly out every weekend from 2010 till now… . So me go all over the world to represent reggae and dancehall culture,” Boom Boom said.
Displaying the jacket, he offered guidance to younger players in the business.
“Stick to you culture and roots… . Don’t get carried away. And stay far from social media negativity and problem. Always stay a people person. Don’t get caught in the fighting and cursing,” he said. “So, for the youths weh wah do music … and not even just music, for the youths in general, stay far from trouble,” Boom Boom warned.
