Brandon Reid says Dr Barry Wint Memorial Scholarship will ease nursing school costs
Brandon Reid says receiving the 2025 Dr Barry Wint Memorial Scholarship will make a meaningful difference as he continues his nursing studies, easing the financial strain tied to school expenses.
Speaking during a segment on this year’s scholarship recipients, Reid said the award will lift a major weight from him, both in terms of funding his education and helping him focus on his performance. He said not having to worry about finding money for another payment will be a major source of relief.
Reid said his decision to pursue nursing was shaped in large part by his mother, who works in the public health sector as a community health aide nurse. He said she was the main person who encouraged him to choose a career in public health.
He also pointed to a long-standing desire to care for others. Reid said that from a young age he has felt a deep concern for people, especially members of his family, and has often supported them through periods of illness.
That personal connection to caregiving became even stronger through his grandmother’s experience with diabetes. Reid said he has consistently been there for her and has spent time helping to look after her as she faced the illness.
He said the scholarship means a great deal to him because it removes a financial burden and allows him to concentrate more fully on his studies. Reid’s remarks presented nursing as both a professional goal and a personal calling, rooted in family influence, public health service and direct experience caring for loved ones.
Reid is among the 2025 recipients of the Dr Barry Wint Memorial Scholarship as he works toward a career in nursing.
