Capleton SoulFoodFestival416 Show Moved to September as Toronto Organisers Seek Larger Venue
Reggae star Capleton will have to wait a bit longer before taking the stage in Canada again. Promoters behind SoulFoodFestival416 say his billed headline slot, first set for July 1, 2026, in Markham, Ontario, will now unfold on September 12, 2026, as the festival shifts to a roomier site to handle surging interest.
Festival officials report that tickets were already about 90 per cent gone, which led them to scout a bigger location somewhere in the Greater Toronto Area. They say the aim is to give patrons a stronger live experience. Permit requirements and input from municipal leaders on crowd safety for a larger production also played a part in the revised timeline.
Capleton moved to calm fans who had been counting down the original date. In a post on his official Instagram page, he said he is already on Canadian soil and ready to deliver the performance. He made clear the schedule change was not his decision and asked supporters to hold on while planners lock in the upgraded setting.
“This show is going to happen; however, we have to ensure that all proper security arrangements will be in place to ensure patron flow, traffic management, transportation coordination and parking solutions so we need a bigger venue because of the huge demand and support,” Capleton said.
Interest in the artist’s Canadian comeback has built steadily across a career spanning decades, and the September date is now tipped to pull one of the biggest reggae crowds the Greater Toronto Area will see this year.
Cabel Stephenson, who sits on Capleton’s executive management team, noted that staging an event of this scale on Canada Day would stretch public safety resources thin. “Given the magnitude of the demand on a holiday such as Canada Day, the authorities would be hard pressed to provide proper security for the event because of other public events and security issues on that day,” Stephenson said.
“The safety of the families and patrons who would be attending this Capleton concert is a paramount concern for all so a postponement would be better for all parties involved,” Stephenson said.
The timing also lands amid a busy stretch for the Grammy-nominated singer. His long-awaited album Heights of Fire arrives June 26 on Swiss indie imprint Evidence Music. The 12-song set is his first full studio release in 16 years and pairs him again with notable guests such as Damian Marley and Stephen Marley.
Preview tracks including Prayers Up, Behave Yourself and Highway Robbers have helped build early traction, with reggae listeners worldwide taking notice.
For SoulFoodFestival416 promoter Fabian “Boomas” Cole, the later date reflects a choice to invest in quality rather than squeeze an outsized crowd into a space that no longer fits.
When the festival runs in September, attendees will mark both Capleton’s return to Canada and one of the year’s most talked-about reggae releases.
