Carl Wilson grows Super Wholesalers Chemicals from industry experience in Portmore
Carl Wilson opened Super Wholesalers Chemicals and Accessories in 2017, turning more than two decades of work in Jamaica's chemicals sector into a retail and wholesale operation serving households, businesses, schools, banks and hotels across the island.
Wilson said he had been in the industry since 1994, experience that taught him about chemical products, their uses and what customers expect. He initially ran two branches — one in Portmore and another in May Pen — but closed the Clarendon outlet because of the time needed to travel between Kingston and May Pen, along with other operational pressures.
That background helped him build a steady customer following. Chlorine products have long been staples in the Jamaican market, he noted, and shoppers remain familiar with established names such as Wonder and Chlorine. Restoring the quality and value those buyers remember, he said, was a key reason many customers kept returning.
The business stocks floor-cleaning soaps known locally as Pablo soap for their strong fragrance, body wash in Dove and Irish Spring scents, fabric softeners, dishwashing liquids and delicate soaps suited to people with sensitive skin. Wilson said the floor products leave homes with a fresh, pleasant scent that lingers.
Super Wholesalers operates from 23 B Portmore Mall, where Wilson said it is the only dedicated chemical store in the complex. The Portmore branch also delivers to larger hotels, banks and other institutions across the country.
Wilson urged aspiring entrepreneurs not to let fear block them from pursuing ideas. "There's a challenge. And with a challenge, there's a risk," he said. "If you have an idea and you choose to want to expand on the idea but you're afraid, just take the challenge. Take the risk. You never ever know what can happen. So, I would say take the challenge, take the risk, and it might just be in your benefit."
