Cashan Targets Global Reggae Breakthrough With Debut Album Here Comes Cashan
Jamaican recording artiste Cashan is getting ready to make her formal album statement with Here Comes Cashan, her first reggae project, scheduled for release on June 26. The singer-songwriter is not hiding the size of her hopes for the set. "I’m thinking Grammy," she declared.
For Cashan, the album is intended to do more than add new music to her catalogue. She sees it as a way to show listeners who she is as an artiste and to send a brighter spirit into reggae. Asked about the moment of finally putting the long-awaited work before fans, she said, "Excited is an understatement."
The name Here Comes Cashan was selected to mark a fresh stage in her career. "I chose Here Comes Cashan because I’m introducing the me that the world needs to know," she explained.
Cashan said the record is tied to her belief in being genuine while using songs to lift people. "The album represents me being my true self. I am a very positive person. Also, the industry needs more uplifting music, so here comes Cashan," she said.
She described the project’s mood as "empowering and groovy". In the studio, she said, the writing did not feel forced, with ideas often coming from how the rhythms moved her emotionally. "Honestly, I just wrote what the beats told me to," she revealed.
One song with deep personal meaning is Mama Love. Cashan said that track stands out because of what her mother means to her and what she wants to do for her. "I’d say Mama Love because I can’t wait to give my mom the world," she said.
Another selection, Sweet Jamaica, is built around her affection for the country and its culture. "I really, really love my country despite all the craziness happening. I was just driving and listening to the instrumental and that’s what I came up with," she shared.
Cashan also wants the music to push people towards action. She pointed to Born Leader as a song meant to encourage determination, patience and confidence. "I want people to feel motivated to accomplish something for themselves, no matter how small it is. I want them to know that slow progress is better than no progress," she said.
The album brings in several collaborators. Reggae veteran Richie Spice appears on Roaring Lion, a feature Cashan said she had to pursue with persistence. She recalled trying to reach him directly before an unexpected link helped make the contact. "I was telling my nail technician that I had sent him a DM and an e-mail and still got no response, but I had to get him on the album. She made a call and got his number," Cashan recalled.
Recording with Richie Spice became one of the memorable parts of making the album. "Working with him was fun. I love me some Richie Spice. He’s such a sweet person," she continued.
Yaksta is also featured, joining Cashan on Changes. She said his energy made him the right choice for that song. "Yaksta was perfect for Changes because he’s in the burning fire zone," she said.
Dancehall artiste Topman is part of the project as well, bringing another colour to the album’s sound. His contribution gives the reggae-driven set a dancehall edge while fitting with its focus on empowerment, honesty and personal expression.
Veteran reggae deejay Louie Culture appears on One of a Kind. Cashan said that collaboration came together through a mutual friend.
Asked which song she believes supporters will gravitate towards most, Cashan declined to limit the answer to a single title. "Wow, that’s a very hard question. They’ll connect with all of them," she said confidently.
Her expectations for Here Comes Cashan remain high, with the artiste making clear that she is aiming beyond a routine release. "I’m thinking Grammy," she declared.
Cashan and her team are putting plans in place for a strong promotional push around the album. Roaring Lion, featuring Richie Spice, is set to arrive on June 16 with a music video. An album launch is being planned, and promotional tours are expected after that.
Here Comes Cashan is due for worldwide release on June 26. With its positive messages, reggae grooves and features from respected Jamaican acts, the project is being presented as Cashan’s bid to step forward as one of the promising new voices in reggae.
