Trailer Truck Overturns in Central Village After Mechanical Trouble

Traffic slowed heavily in Central Village, St Catherine, on Thursday morning after a 40-foot trailer truck turned over on the community’s main road following what was reported as a mechanical failure.

The driver, Fabian Cole, told Observer Online the crash took place shortly after 9:00 am as he was coming from Kingston with a chassis connected to the trailer. Cole said speed was not a factor, telling the publication, “I wasn’t speeding or anything.”

He said trouble started when the chassis got caught in the tyres on one side of the trailer. Cole explained that the pressure and movement caused the tyres to blow out, which then sent the trailer over. “The chassis itself dug down in it, and because of the motion and the weight, it jammed down in the tyre and burst it and flipped it off the chassis,” he said.

Cole said he became aware the trailer was going over after seeing dust rising behind him, but he was still able to keep command of the vehicle. “I was really frightened as well, but I didn’t lose focus. I realised that it was going to go over,” he said.

The driver commended the police response, saying officers got to the scene within minutes and started directing traffic right away. Cole added, “At the moment we’re waiting on the cranes to come and lift it up and clear the road.”

No one was reported hurt. Cole said he escaped injury despite the frightening experience. The video was credited to Naphtali Junior.
