Christian Eriksen conscious after collapse in Denmark friendly against Ukraine

1 min read

ODENSE, Denmark (AP) — Denmark’s football federation said Sunday that Christian Eriksen was awake after falling to the turf once more while representing the national side.

Television footage from the international friendly against Ukraine at Nature Energy Park in Odense showed the 34-year-old Eriksen holding his chest with both hands in the 65th minute.

The following broadcast shot showed him lying on the pitch as players gathered around him. The game was subsequently abandoned.

In a post on X, the federation said: “Christian Eriksen is conscious and, under the circumstances, doing well.” It added: “The match is called off.”

Eriksen previously suffered a cardiac arrest in 2021 during Denmark’s first European Championship group match against Finland in Copenhagen. He received extended medical care on the field before he regained consciousness.

Denmark and Ukraine have not secured qualification for the World Cup.
