Clarendon Attorney Alleges Police Assault at May Pen Records Office as IPROB Review Continues

A practising attorney who works at the parish, Supreme, and Appeal Court levels says she was beaten and thrown out of the police records office in May Pen, Clarendon, on March 12 after rejecting advances from a man she believed worked there.

The woman, who asked not to be named, told reporters she visited the office to complete documentation when a man asked for her telephone number. After she declined, she said he later questioned her application, claimed her photograph and receipt were incorrect, and insisted her file would not be processed that day. She said he wore plain clothes, had no badge, and was not in uniform.

The attorney said tensions rose when she maintained she had followed all requirements. She alleged he pushed her against a wall, struck her head, placed her hands behind her back as if to arrest her, and later crushed her receipt, threw it at her feet, seized her bag and phone, threw her outside, and beat her. She said her lace-front wig was torn off and most of her press-on nails were lost in the scuffle. She now wears a brace for lower-back pain and missed two days of work.

She said her client, who accompanied her, was captured on CCTV pulling the man off her while bystanders called, "Just let her go. Let her go." Two staff members from inside the office also restrained him while he shouted, "Arrest her. Arrest the girl." She said the officer later reported her to the general legal counsel, alleging she attacked him first — a claim she denies.

"I did not touch that officer. I didn't even get the opportunity. It was not even a fight. It was a beat up," she said. She has filed a report with the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau and is awaiting its findings before deciding on court action.

In other news, the People's National Party is mourning former St. James Western Central MP Arthur Nelson, who died at 91. The party praised the engineer-turned-parliamentarian for integrity, humility, and constituency service, including winning elections in 1993 and 1997 and campaigning in the area during the 2020 general election.

The Future Children Foundation has condemned reported treatment of grade-six pupils at Ascot Primary School in St. Catherine, where some students allegedly were denied caps and gowns and made to march behind classmates based on Primary Exit Profile results. Chair Sabrina Barnes said every child deserves dignity at graduation. The group cited possible Charter breaches and urged families to report the matter and preserve evidence.

Deputy Superintendent Courtney Wilson of the JCF Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division said officers have seized 7,322 ecstasy and MDMA tablets since the start of the year. Jamaica Customs Agency data cited at a Thursday briefing showed MDMA detections rose 13 percent, with 34,292 tablets detected from January 2024 through early 2026.
