Clarendon welder killed in Muirhead Avenue crash with police SUV

Clarendon

A young Clarendon tradesman lost his life early Saturday after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a crash with a police vehicle.

He has been named as Kevin Baker, a 22-year-old welder from Havana Heights in the parish.

According to reports, Baker was travelling west along Muirhead Avenue in Denbigh, Clarendon, about 2:10 a.m. on a Zamco 200 motorcycle. A woman was riding as pillion passenger, and police say neither of them was wearing a protective helmet.

The police vehicle, identified as a 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser, was said to have been stationed in support of stop-and-search duties.

Police reported that Baker abruptly started to ride in an unstable manner, causing the motorcycle to crash into the SUV.

Baker and the 20-year-old woman were both injured and transported to May Pen Hospital. Baker was declared dead there, while the woman was admitted in serious condition.

The Area Three Accident Reconstruction Unit examined the crash site, and the May Pen Traffic Department is carrying out the investigation.
