Classics in June will celebrate its 21st year when the charity concert is staged on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21, 2026. Presented by the Kingston Club of Soroptimist International Jamaica, the event is scheduled for the Church of the Ascension in Mona, St Andrew, with a 5:00 pm start.
The programme will feature several recognised Jamaican classical performers, including soprano Lori Burnett; tenor Rory Baugh; pianist Yanique Leiba-Ebanks; mezzo-soprano Christine MacDonald Nevers; guitarist Shawn Richards; pianist Stephen Shaw-Naar; violinist Gabriel Walters; and violinist Steven Woodham.
They will share the bill with newer performers Rashida Nelson, a cellist who has worked with groups such as the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jamaica; Cuban opera soprano Indira Perez Valdes; and Sean Vasciannie, a pianist and composer with a strong love for classical music. Vasciannie, who has written about 50 short compositions, is expected to perform two of his own pieces.
The concert highlights the depth of Jamaica’s classical music talent, including musicians and composers whose work has gained attention locally, regionally and internationally. Classics in June gives the performers a platform to present the music they interpret or create, while offering audiences a chance to enjoy the quality and spirit of the genre.
Sponsors for this year’s concert are the CHASE Fund, Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited, which is marking its 10th anniversary, The Treatment Room, and Vinci Construction Grands Projets. Proceeds will once more assist the Shortwood United Church Early Childhood Development Centre, along with other Soroptimist-supported charities.
