Under the Stars Brings Comedy and Reggae to Old Harbour

Stand-up comedy and live reggae will share the spotlight during Jamaica’s Independence season when Under the Stars – Jokes N Jammins stages its anticipated entertainment showcase on August 7. The event is scheduled for the newly opened Totally Delicious Ice Cream Park in Old Harbour. Organisers are promising an evening centred on Jamaican culture, music, humour and national pride, with leading entertainers from Jamaica and elsewhere in the Caribbean taking part.

Internationally recognised comedian Majah Hype will lead the comedy segment alongside Jamaican favourite Fancy Cat and performer Kathy Grant. The three comedians are expected to provide plenty of laughs and create memorable moments for the audience.

Music will form an equally significant part of the programme. Singer Lenn Hammond, reggae veteran Eric Donaldson and chart-topping artiste Christopher Martin are among the scheduled performers. Martin will appear with his live band and bring the event to a close with an energetic set drawn from his best-known songs. The performance will allow supporters to hear material from the catalogue that has helped establish him among Jamaica’s leading contemporary entertainers.

Producer and host Sharon Gordon said Under the Stars was developed to give Jamaicans an Independence celebration combining culture, entertainment and unity. She said placing some of the country’s top comedians on the same stage as established musical performers would highlight Jamaica’s distinctive humour, music and cultural identity. Gordon added that organisers want each patron to leave with enduring memories of an evening featuring strong performances, laughter and authentic Jamaican entertainment.
