The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) has expressed horror and deep sorrow over the sexual assault and murder of 10-year-old Shenae Coke, describing her death as a stark reminder that violence and abuse still threaten too many children in Jamaica.

The agency is again pressing for stronger safeguards for minors and sharper watchfulness in communities. Chief Executive Officer Laurette Adams-Thomas said CPFSA is grieving with the child's relatives and the broader community.

"This must be a turning point for Jamaica. We must cultivate an environment where the protection of our children is an immediate priority, transcending the rhetoric that simply designates them as the future. Every child is precious. Every life has immeasurable value, and every adult has a responsibility to intervene, to report abuse, to speak up, and to act. If we truly believe that our children are our greatest asset, then our actions must begin to reflect those words," Adams-Thomas said.

CPFSA said the killing should stand as a countrywide appeal to shield Jamaica's children and to refuse every form of violence directed at them. Agency first responders are assisting the victim's family, reviewing the well-being of other children linked to the household, and cooperating with the police while the investigation proceeds.

Adams-Thomas stressed that keeping children safe is a duty shared across the nation and appealed to Jamaicans to report any suspected child abuse.
